Patients suffering from acne often consider laser or light therapy, as these deal with the deepest layer of skin without harming the surface. Certain laser systems can target the sebaceous, or oil-producing glands, making them produce less oil, while others go after the bacterium Propionibacterium acnes (P. acne) which causes acne. These treatments are also considered a good idea for people with acne scars, as the overall skin texture is improved.

Laser acne treatment, before and after results

If you suffer from acne, our skin care specialists will work with you to decide which procedure is most appropriate. The breakdown of the types of treatments are:

  • Blue Light Therapy painlessly exposes your skin to a low intensity blue light which destroys P. acne. Because P. acne is a type of bacterium that grows quickly, this procedure takes several sessions, and may cause a bit of redness and dryness in the treated areas. We also offer a combination of blue and red light therapy which may be more effective than blue light alone.
  • There is also pulsed light and heat energy therapy, which helps to shrink the sebaceous glands which contribute to acne. Again, there may be some temporary redness following this procedure.
